Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School (formerly known as Wilson High School)

September 2016 – June 2022

I have taught AP Physics 1, AP Physics with Calculus: Mechanics, 10th Grade NGSS Chemistry, Science Research, Astronomy, Advanced Astronomy, and Earth Science. I was selected by students as the commencement speaker in 2019 and 2022..

1978 - Present

Sole-proprietor of a business that provides science and math education for a wide variety of clients from individuals to non-profit groups to schools, from elementary students to graduate students to retirees. My main focus recently has been offering tutoring services for high school science and math classes (chemistry, physics, pre-calculus, calculus).

Lewis & Clark College

June 2011 – Present (intermittent)

Instructor in Sci580 “Teaching Children About the Natural World.” This is the science methods course for intern-students earning their MAT and K-8 teaching license. I also teach science-based professional development workshops for teachers through the Lewis and Clark College Center for Community Engagement.

September 2004 – August 2012

Middle School Science Teacher at an award-winning (US Department of Education Blue Ribbon School 2005) pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade Jewish day school. Taught all fields of science to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. Science curriculum consultant to lower school. Academic advisor. Safety Committee Chair. Head of School Search Committee member. Science Department Head.

September 1997 – June 2002

Science and Nature Consultant for public middle school, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Worked with science instructors to improve traditional science curricula to include hands-on activities and experiential learning based on Oregon Standards. Worked with language arts block instructors to integrate field-based nature studies into regular curricula.

Founding board member, board president, lead instructor, executive director, and board member for Nearby Nature, a non-profit organization committed to providing nature appreciation and study opportunities. Responsible for a wide variety of activities including organizational development, grant writing, donor cultivation, curriculum development, volunteer training, instruction, and community outreach.

Instructor for The Heritage Institute of Antioch University. Co-designed and taught courses titled “Using the Schoolgrounds as an Outdoor Classroom,” “Exploring Eugene/Springfield Natural Areas,” “Creating and Using Discovery Kits in the Classroom,” and “Teaching Kids to Keep a Nature Journal.”
